it's a hobby where people around the world hide little containers anywhere and put the coordinates online. Then you go out and search for some caches (containers) near you. When you find one you just sign the log and maybe trade items if you want something in the container. Usually not of any value. It's fun like an easter egg hunt. There's probably several near where you live. :)
